Suspended LED
lighting in Lyon

The City of Lyon installs suspended
LED lighting on rue Joséphin Soulary
Interview with Jérôme Donna, Public Lighting Department, City of Lyon, project manager:
“Our aim was to recreate lighting along the entire route in order to highlight the structural boundaries of the site—namely the stone boundary walls—while keeping the panoramic view over the city unobstructed, and to provide easy access for users, like a carpet of light unfolding before them.
In daytime conditions, the lighting had to be as discreet as possible, preserving this exceptional view of the city, with linear LED equipment that blends seamlessly into its surroundings.
At night, we wanted to create a sequence of luminous points offering real visual comfort and ensuring uniform lighting performance along the entire length of the street—like a string, a guide of light.
We therefore needed to select linear luminaires suited to the site’s configuration and to obtain optics capable of working along the full length of the route.
The result fully meets our expectations, with excellent uniformity in lighting levels.
LEC’s great strength lies in its ability to adapt to our on-site constraints by providing a bespoke technical response on two levels:
- First, an L2 optic adapted to our need for uniform lighting along the entire street.
- Second, an electrical solution which, by grouping two cables into one, creates this linear string of light.”
To illuminate rue Joséphin Soulary, 48 LED projectors 5533-Soulary were suspended on a 470-metre-long cable.
The lighting system features dimming control, allowing light levels to be adjusted to suit the needs of local residents.
