London, Lewis Cubitt Square

London (England)Landscaped park

In the heart of King’s Cross, the redevelopment of Lewis Cubitt Square is distinguished by a subtle, reassuring lighting scheme designed by Speirs + Major. The system is based on five 13-metre-high wooden columns, each fitted with nine LUMINY 4 – 4040 projectors mounted at the top, for a total of 45 fixtures.

The concept plays with three lighting effects that structure the different uses of the square:

  • soft oval shapes in resting areas,
  • medium-sized luminous circles around the edges of the square,
  • small, precise beams along the fountains.

The lighting scenario evolves throughout the day, adjusting light levels according to the time and ambient daylight. A living, organic lighting design that enhances the contemporary aesthetic of this new London public space.
