Les Deux Plateaux – Palais Royal, Paris

Paris (France)Landscaped park

An iconic work by Daniel Buren, Les Deux Plateaux—better known as the “Buren Columns”—underwent a complete restoration in 2009.

Originally illuminated in 1985 with PALAIS ROYAL – 1843 markers selected by architect Patrick Bouchain, the lighting installation was redesigned to remain faithful to the artist’s original intent.

LEC therefore developed special flush markers with bi-colour red and green lighting oriented in two opposite directions, recreating the enigmatic, contemporary visual atmosphere envisioned by the artist.

A discreet yet powerful lighting scheme, serving a work in which light and architecture are in constant dialogue.
