Citadel of Bonifacio

Bonifacio (Corsica)Landscaped park

Since July 2015, the Citadel of Bonifacio has been illuminated each evening by a poetic lighting trail, offering a renewed perspective to both local residents and the thousands of visitors to this emblematic Corsican site.

Régis Clouzet (Agence Lumière) describes it as a “scale of light” guiding the viewer from the marina up to the upper town, gradually revealing the power and delicacy of this exceptional historic site.
“This project weaves connections between history and modernity, between the sea and the upper town, between the built environment and its spectators.”

More than 12,000 m² of ramparts and cliffs are enhanced using 200 LEC projectors, carefully integrated into the limestone relief. The installation, carried out by Santini, required genuine technical expertise in order to respect the site’s fragile natural environment.

The result is a subtle, immersive lighting scheme that emphasises the site’s verticality while accompanying nighttime exploration in a setting steeped in history.
